The Bahamas is made up of nearly 3,000 islands and tourism accounts for over 60% of the Bahamian economy. Nassau, the Capital and Commonwealth of the Bahamas is on New Providence Island which was minimally affected by the storm. However, several of the family islands in the northwestern Bahamas, including Grand Bahama Island, have experienced devastating conditions.
